  • participatory learning – including use of participants’ own experiences;

  • Organising quiz, Debates, Essay and painting competition for school/college students; 

 

  • Testing driver-reaction to developing Hazards on  computers and projectors; 

  • Sensitizing drivers on First Aid to the victims of road accidents;

  • Sensitization on the use of child restraints;

  • Cultural activities promoting road safety;

  • Publicity Campaigns on:

Always wear safety belt, 

Follow lane discipline, 

Always wear helment; 

Don’t drink & Drive, 

Don’t over-speed, 

Be alert on road; 

Don't overload etc. 

 

Our mission is to save lives by supporting victims, reducing the risk of injuries, deaths, economic and social losses. 

Road Safety Initiative - Uganda 'RSI' encourages the advisement of progressive social change by using mainly the media.

Advocacy to Promote traffic Laws

THEORY DRIVING: 

The theory driving is aimed to check that drivers know more than just how to operate a car and this includes:

 

Hazard Perception, Safety Margins and Hazard Awareness or Developing Hazards.

 

PRACTICAL DRIVING: 

To learn and understand the skill of driving by taking lessons from a trained and FULLY qualified driving instructors.

To acquire the knowledge of rules through their instructors and studying the Modern Highway Code.

 

A key element of learning is to test and reinforce their knowledge.

Take the right ATTITUDE though no one is perfect; be careful, courteous and considerate to all other road users.   

 

DEFENSIVE DRIVING

Defensive Driving is about concentration on the road, being responsible, considerate, questioning the actions of other road users and being prepare for the unexpected so that you are not taken by surprise.

What you must know to Drive Safely !  

 

Accidents.... First aid, Warning devices, Reporting procedure and Safety regulations.

Alertness…Consideration, anticipation, Awareness, distraction and Boredom.

Attitude .....Consideration, Close following, Courtesy and Priority.

Documents ...License, Insurance, MOT (Ministry of Transport) test certificates.

Hazard Awareness .... Anticipation, Hazard Awareness, Attention, Speed and distance, Reaction time, The effects of Alcohol and Drugs, and Tiredness.

Motorway Rules [Highway Rules] ...Speed limits, Lane discipline, Stopping, Lighting and Parking.

Other Types of Vehicles ... Trains, Motorcycles, Lorries and Buses.

Road and Traffic Signs .....Road Signs, Speed limits, Road markings and Regulations.

Urban Traffic Congestion Management

Traffic congestion is demand for road space outstripping the available road infrastructure to the extent that free movement of traffic is nearly impossible. 

 

Kampala city is extremely congested; disorderly with traffic and this problem is growing day by day. Traffic congestion in Kampala is a public outcry that requires urgent attention. 

 

Tackling traffic congestion is smoothing the traffic flow, goods and services as well. 

 

The emphasis is not to increase the speed of traffic but to ensure journeys run more smoothly and that the driver or passenger can more reliably estimate the time the journey takes.
