The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR)

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) is commemorated on the third Sunday of November each year.

This day was initiated by road victims in 1993 and adopted by the UN on 26th October 2005.It is dedicated to remembering millions killed and injured in road crashes, the suffering of their families and communities.

Why we remember Road Traffic Victims?

We remember Road Traffic Victims to pay tribute to the dedicated emergency crews, police, NGOs for Road Safety and medical professionals who daily deal with the traumatic aftermath of road death and injury.

Why is there a need for this day?

Road deaths and injuries are sudden, violent and traumatic events. The impact is long-lasting and often permanent.

Each year, millions of newly injured and bereaved people around the world are added to the countless millions already suffering as the result of a road crash.

The burden of injury, grief and distress is equal regardless of one’s status in the community.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR), is a special day intended to respond to the great need of road crash victims and for the public to recognize the loss of their loved ones and suffering.

It is an important tool for governments and interest groups to demonstrate the urgent need for action to reduce the risk.
